Over the years several people in our community have died, at times without sufficient
or appropriate care. We gather in response both to the reality of death and our observation
of the need for end-of-life support within the Bay Area Ridhwan community. We are
creating a group to serve, which will explore needs as they arise and support members with
the practical, emotional and spiritual issues during end-of-life. This group will provide
care to supplement what is already available, such as family support or hospice services.
We want to inform, support and serve by providing:
Practical Resources: referrals to professionals within the local community who can provide end-of-life
services, such as lawyers and social workers
Preparation and planning: workshops on Living Wills and Advanced Directives
Bedside skills training: for feeding, bathing and transferring
Support-services for the household: organizing meals, shopping, cooking, cleaning, transportation
In these ways we can integrate our spiritual practice with care of the dying, and create a forum to explore
our own personal relationship to death and end-of-life issues. These activities are Life Practice.
We invite community members interested in end-of-life issues, and those with expertise and experience,
to participate in this endeavor. You are welcome to contact any of us.
Watch for announcements regarding future events and trainings.
